 I’ve never blended in easily, and people often judged me before I ever spoke. That’s part of why I was drawn to the blues — to the soul and depth of African American music and the way it makes something real out of being misunderstood. The imagery I use nods to that history and reflects the space I’ve always lived in between how others see me and who I really am.
